Masala puri

Masala puri is stuffed puff bread filled with spices. These masala puri can be served with any Indian curry or yogurt or pickle, in breakfast, in lunch or any main course or snack. In this recipe, I am using wheat flour, you can use flour of your choice. I have shared Plain Puri Recipe as well, Click here to check Plain Puri Recipe.

INGREDIENTS:

For dough:

  • Wheat flour 1 cup
  • Salt to taste
  • Carom seeds 1/4 tsp
  • Oil 1 tsp

For filling:

  • Urad dal soaked 1/3 cup
  • Chilli flakes 1/3 tsp
  • Salt to taste
  • Dry Coriander crushed 1 tsp
  • Cumin seeds 1/4 tsp
  • Turmeric powder 1 pinch
  • Asafoetida 1 pinch
  • Oil for frying 

METHOD:

  1. In a mixing bowl add whole wheat flour, salt, 1 tsp oil and mix well. Add some water and make medium soft dough. Cover it and Keep aside for 10 mins.
  2. grind the soaked urad dal in grinder and grind it coarsely without adding water, add salt, Chili powder, coriander powder, turmeric powder, asafoetida, mix well and keep it aside for 5 mins.
  3. Take a small ball size portion of dough and roll a ball. Make a hole in center of ball and fill 1/4 tsp of filling in it and cover it gain with dough and roll to ball again. Press the ball to make it flat.
  4. Now use oil to flat the balls and roll it in 1/2-inch-thick discs with the help of rolling pin.
  5. Prepare all discs.
  6. In a deep-frying pan, heat oil for deep frying. When oil is hot carefully slide prepared puri disc one by one in oil. Press little bit in center to let puri puff and flip over with slotted spoon and let it cook from both sides.
  7. Take puris out on absorbent paper to remove excess oil.
  8. Masala puris are ready to serve.
