Lauki/Bootle Guard with Channa dal curry

Lauki/Bootle Guard and channa dal curry is channa dal cooked with Bootle Guard and some spices. Channa dal is nothing but split chickpeas. Channa dal is full of protein and very healthy for kids and everyone.

Many kids don’t like Bootle Guard or Lauki because they find it tasteless, but Bootle Guard is full of fiber and good for digestion. Lauki is known with many names Like Ghiya, Dhoodhi, Lauki , Bootle Guard People drink Lauki juice early in morning to Balance their day diet. So, it’s important to feed kids everything nutritious.

Lauki and channa curry is full of protein and fiber and kids doesn’t even feel much Lauki in it. This curry can be served with rice or roti. So, today’s recipe is healthy and yummy for people who give preference to health.

Ingredients:

  • Channa dal 1 cup
  • Lauki/Bootle Guard 1 medium size
  • Water 3 cup
  • Tomato 1 Medium Size
  • Cumin 1 tsp
  • Turmeric powder 1/3 tsp
  • Coriander powder 1/2 tsp
  • Red chili powder 1/2 tsp (can be reduce as per spicy needed)
  • Garam masala powder 1/3 tsp
  • Oil 1 tbsp
  • Salt to taste

Method:

  • Wash and soak channa dal in water for at least 30 minutes.
  • Wash Peel Lauki/Bootle Guard outer skin and cut it in cubes.
  • In a pressure cooker add Chana dal with Lauki, salt, turmeric and water. Keep it on medium flame and let it pressure cook for 10 minutes.
  • When dal get boiled open pressure cooker lid (make sure there is no steam left in pressure cooker, please don’t force to open lid) and check dal if it cooked properly, if it still needs to cook more. Cover lid again and cook for another 3-4 minutes. After 3-4 minutes switch off flame and keep dal mixture aside.
  • Chop onion and tomato and keep aside.
  • In a pan, heat oil and add cumin seeds, when it starts to cracker, add chopped onion and let it sauté for 1-2 minutes. Add coriander powder, red chili powder and add tomatoes to mixture and mix well. Let tomatoes and spices cook for 2-3 minutes on medium flame till all tomatoes cooked well.
  • Now add boiled dal Mixture and gram masala Powder.
  •  Serve it with rice or any bread.
  • (if you like some additional spicy) In a small tadka pan add 1/2 tsp oil and add 1/3 tsp cumin seeds, 1/3 tsp mustard seeds and let it cracker add 1/2 tsp chili powder and pour to cooked dal on top and serve
